A group [of you] He guided, and a group deserved [to be in] error. Indeed, they had taken the devils as allies instead of Allah while they thought that they were guided.

Al-Aʿrāf: 30

{فريقاً هدى} They are those who submitted [to Islam], meaning He granted them success in faith.

{وفريقاً حق عليهم الضلالة} Meaning the decree of misguidance, for God knew they would go astray and not be guided. The accusative case of the word {فريقاً} is governed by an implied verb explained by what follows it, as if it were said: "And He abandoned a group upon whom misguidance was decreed."

{إنهم اتخذوا الشياطين أولياء} Meaning the group upon whom misguidance was decreed: they took the devils as allies, meaning they followed them in obedience to what they commanded them. This is evidence that God’s foreknowledge has no causal effect on their misguidance; rather, they are the ones who are misguided by their own choice and by taking the devils as allies instead of God.

Al-Aʿrāf: 31–32

{يا بني آدم خذوا زينتكم عند كل مسجد وكلوا واشربوا ولا تسرفوا إنه لا يحب المسرفين * قل من حرم زينة الله التي أخرج لعباده والطيبات من الرزق قل هي للذين آمنوا في الحياة الدنيا خالصة يوم القيامة كذلك نفصل الآيات لقوم يعلمون}
