Verse range: 7:42
{ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا }
This is a parenthetical sentence inserted between the subject and the predicate. Its purpose is to encourage the acquisition of eternal bliss—the description of which is beyond the capacity of any describer—while simultaneously magnifying the value of what is within one’s capacity. This "capacity" refers to the broad, non-restrictive possibility of faith and righteous deeds.
Al-Aʿmash read it as: { لَا تُكَلَّفُ نَفْسٌ } (No soul shall be burdened).
{ وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهِمُ الْأَنْهَارُ ۖ وَقَالُوا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَانَا لِهَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهْتَدِيَ لَوْلَا أَنْ هَدَانَا اللَّهُ ۖ لَقَدْ جَاءَتْ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِالْحَقِّ ۖ وَنُودُوا أَن تِلْكُمُ الْجَنَّةُ أُورِثْتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ }
