Al-Aʿrāf: 64

{And those who were with him} It is said: They were forty men and forty women. It is also said: Nine—his sons Sām, Ḥām, and Yāfith, and six others who believed in him.

If you ask: To what does {in the Ark} relate? I say: It relates to {with him}, as if it were said: "Those who settled with him in the Ark," or "Those who accompanied him in the Ark." It is also permissible for it to relate to the verb of salvation (al-injāʾ), meaning: "We saved them in the ship from the flood."

{Blind} Blindness of the hearts, lacking insight. It is also recited as (ʿāmin). The difference between ʿamī (blind) and ʿāmin (becoming blind) is that ʿamī denotes a permanent blindness, while ʿāmin denotes one that is incidental. Similar to this is His saying: {...and your chest is constricted by it} (Hūd: 12).

Al-Aʿrāf: 65–69

{And to ʿĀd [We sent] their brother Hūd. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Will you not then fear Him?"}

{The eminent ones who disbelieved among his people said, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."}

{He said, "O my people, there is no foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.}

{I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy advisor.}

{Do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord on [the tongue of] a man from among you, that he might warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in stature extensively. So remember the favors of Allah that you might succeed."}
