Nūḥ: 28

{And for my parents} His father was Lamech, son of Methuselah, and his mother was Shamkha, daughter of Anush; both were believers. It is also said that they were Adam and Eve. Al-Husayn ibn Ali recited it as li-waladayya (for my two children), meaning Shem and Ham.

{My house} My dwelling. It is also said: my mosque. It is also said: my ark. He began by specifying those connected to him, for they are the most deserving and entitled to his supplication, then he generalized it to the believing men and women.

{Except in ruin} Meaning: destruction.

If you ask: What became of their young children when they were drowned? I say: They drowned along with them, not by way of punishment, but just as they die through various causes of death. Many die by drowning or burning. It is as if that were an increase in the torment of the fathers and mothers when they saw their children drowning. From this is his (peace be upon him) saying: "They perish in one destruction, but they depart to various destinations."

Al-Hasan was asked about this and said: "God knew their innocence, so He destroyed them without punishment." It is also said: God rendered the wombs of their women barren and the loins of their men dry forty or seventy years before the Flood, so there were no children among them when they were drowned.

From the Messenger of God (peace be upon him): "Whoever recites Surat Nūḥ will be among the believers whom the supplication of Nūḥ (peace be upon him) reaches."
