And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allah upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.
Tafsir
Verse range: 72:12
{In the earth} and {by fleeing} are two circumstantial qualifiers (ḥāl).
That is: We will not frustrate Him while we are in the earth, wherever we may be within it; and we will not frustrate Him by fleeing from it toward the sky.
It is also said: We will not frustrate Him in the earth if He intends a matter for us, and we will not frustrate Him by fleeing if He pursues us.
"Thinking" (ẓann) here carries the meaning of certainty. This describes the states of the Jinn, their conditions, and their beliefs: among them are the righteous, the wicked, and the moderate. They believe that Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He—is Almighty and Overpowering; no objective escapes Him, and no place of refuge provides salvation from Him.
{And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. So whoever believes in his Lord will fear neither deprivation nor burden.}
