Tafsir
Verse range: 72:14-15
{The Qasitun (deviators)}: The disbelievers who have strayed from the path of truth.
It is narrated from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) that when al-Hajjaj intended to kill him, he asked: "What do you say about me?" He replied: "You are a qasit (deviator) and an ‘adil (one who equates others with Allah)."
The people present said: "How excellent his words are!"—thinking he was describing him as equitable and just. But al-Hajjaj said: "O ignorant ones! He has called me an oppressor and a polytheist." He then recited to them the Almighty’s saying: {As for the Qasitun (deviators)...} and His saying: {...then those who disbelieve in their Lord equate (others with Him)} (al-An‘am: 1).
Those who do not believe the Jinn receive reward have claimed that Allah threatened their qasitun (deviators) but did not promise anything to their Muslims. However, it is sufficient as a promise that He said: {...those have sought out the right path}, thereby mentioning the cause and necessity of the reward. Allah is too just to punish the qasit (deviator) without rewarding the rashid (the one who follows the right path).
{And if they had remained steadfast on the path, We would have given them abundant water to drink, that We might test them thereby. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will drive him into a mounting punishment.}
