Tafsir
Verse range: 78:31
{مفازا} (A place of attainment): A victory and the achievement of one’s desire, or a place of victory. It is also said: salvation from what others are in, or a place of salvation. The "attainment" is explained by what follows it.
{والحدائق} (And gardens): Orchards containing various types of fruit-bearing trees.
{والأعناب} (And grapevines): Vineyards.
{والكواعب} (And full-breasted maidens): Those whose breasts have swelled and become firm (nawahid).
{وأترابا} (And companions of equal age): Peers.
{ودهاقا} (And a cup full): Overflowing. It is said: "He filled the basin (adhaqa al-hawd)" meaning he filled it to the brim.
{ولا كذابا} (And [they will hear] no falsehood): Read with both tashdid (doubling) and takhfif (lightening) of the dhal. It means: they will not belie one another, nor will it be belied, or they will not exchange lies. It is narrated that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) read both with takhfif.
{جزاء} (A reward): An emphatic verbal noun in the accusative case, related to the meaning of His saying: "Indeed, for the righteous is a place of attainment," as if He said: "He rewarded the righteous with a place of attainment."
{عطاء} (A gift): In the accusative case as the object of jaza'an (reward), meaning: "He rewarded them with a gift."
{حسابا} (Sufficient): An adjective meaning "sufficient" (kafi). It is derived from "I gave him the thing" (ahsabtuhu) when it suffices him, until he says, "It is enough for me" (hasbi). It is also said: "according to their deeds." Ibn Qutaybah read hissaban with tashdid, interpreting hissab as muhsab (sufficient), similar to dirrak (successive) meaning mudrak (reached).
