Al-Anfal: 69

"So eat of what you have taken as booty..."

If you ask: What is the meaning of the fa (So)? I say: It denotes causation, and the cause is omitted. Its meaning is: "I have made the spoils of war lawful for you, so eat of what you have taken as booty."

"Lawful (halalan)": It is in the accusative case as a state (hal) of the booty (al-maghnum), or as an adjective for the verbal noun, meaning: "a lawful eating."

His saying: "Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful": Its meaning is that if you fear Him after what you committed—by deeming the ransom permissible before you were granted permission for it—He will forgive you, have mercy on you, and accept your repentance.

Al-Anfal: 70

"O Prophet, say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, 'If Allah knows [any] good in your hearts, He will give you [something] better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.'"
