ʿAbasa: 11-12

{كلا} A rebuke against what he was reproached for, and against repeating the like of it.

{إنها تذكرة} Meaning: An admonition that must be heeded and acted upon according to its requirements.

{فمن شاء ذكره} Meaning: Whoever wills, let him remember it—meaning he becomes one who preserves it and does not forget it. The pronoun is masculine because "tadhkira" (admonition) carries the meaning of "dhikr" (remembrance) and "waʿz" (exhortation).

{في صحف} An adjective for "tadhkira." It means: It is inscribed in scrolls copied from the Preserved Tablet (al-Lawḥ).

{مكرمة} Honored in the sight of Allah.

{مرفوعة} In the heavens, or elevated in status.

{مطهرة} Purified and kept far from the hands of the devils. None touch it except the hands of angels who are purified.

{سفرة} Scribes who copy the books from the Tablet.

{بررة} Pious and righteous. It is also said: They are the scrolls of the prophets, as in His saying: "Indeed, this is in the former scriptures" (Al-Aʿlā: 18). It is also said: The "Sufara" (scribes) are the reciters, or the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

ʿAbasa: 17-23

{قُتِلَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ * مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ * مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ * ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ * ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ * ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنشَرَهُ * كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ}
