Tafsir of Al-Mutaffifeen 83:22

{Al-Ara’ik}: The couches within the bridal chambers (hijāl).

{They gaze}: At whatever they wish, extending their eyes toward the sights of Paradise, the blessings and honor God has bestowed upon them, and their enemies being punished in the Fire. The bridal chambers do not obstruct their vision from perceiving these things.

{The radiance of bliss}: The splendor, freshness, and luster of luxury, such as one sees on the faces of the wealthy and those who live in comfort. It is also recited as tu‘rafu (passive voice), with naḍratu al-na‘īm in the nominative case.

{Ar-Raḥīq}: The pure drink in which there is no adulteration.

{Sealed}: Its vessels—the cups and pitchers—are sealed with musk instead of clay. It is also said that {its seal is musk} means its aftertaste is the scent of musk when drunk. Another view is that it is mixed with camphor, and its mixture is sealed with musk. It is also recited as khātimuhu (with the tā’ opened or broken), meaning that with which it is sealed and finished.

{So for this, let the competitors compete}: Let those who desire, yearn for it.

{Tasnim}: A proper name for a specific spring. It is named Tasnim—the verbal noun of sannama (to raise)—either because it is the highest drink in Paradise, or because it comes to them from above, as it is narrated that it flows through the air, elevated, and then pours into their vessels.

{A spring}: In the accusative case as a form of praise (madḥ). Al-Zajjaj said: It is in the accusative as a state (ḥāl). It is said that it is for those brought near (al-muqarrabīn), who drink it pure, while it is mixed for the rest of the people of Paradise.

{Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. And when they passed by them, they would wink at one another. And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. And when they saw them, they said, "Indeed, those are truly astray." But they had not been sent as guardians over them.}
