Al-A‘lā: (18–19) "Indeed, this is in..."

{Indeed, this} is a reference to His saying: {He has succeeded} through to {is better and more lasting}. It means that the meaning of these words is contained in those scriptures. It is also said that it refers to everything in this entire Surah.

It is narrated from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "How many books did Allah reveal?" He replied: "One hundred and four books: ten scriptures upon Adam, fifty scriptures upon Seth, thirty scriptures upon Enoch—who is Idris—and ten scriptures upon Abraham, in addition to the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Furqan (the Quran)."

It is said that in the scriptures of Abraham, it is stated: "It behooves the wise person to guard his tongue, to be knowledgeable of his time, and to be attentive to his own affairs."

From the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "Whoever recites Surah al-A‘lā, Allah will grant him ten good deeds for every letter that Allah revealed to Abraham, Moses, and Muhammad."

When he (the Prophet) would recite it, he would say: "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High" (Subḥāna Rabbī al-A‘lā). Ali and Ibn Abbas used to say the same.

He (the Prophet) loved this Surah.

It is said: The first to say "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High" was Michael.
