Al-Ghashiyah: (2) "Faces, that Day, will be humbled"

{Na‘imah} (Joyful): Possessing splendor and beauty, as in His saying: "You will recognize in their faces the radiance of bliss" (Al-Mutaffifin: 24), or they are in a state of luxury.

{Li-sa‘iha radiyah} (Pleased with their striving): They are satisfied with their deeds because they have seen what those deeds led them to in terms of honor and reward.

{‘Aliyah} (Elevated): In terms of status or rank.

{La tasma‘u} (You will not hear): O addressee. Or, the faces will not hear "laghiyah" (any vain talk), meaning any idle speech, or a word containing vanity, or a soul that speaks vainly. The people of Paradise speak only wisdom and praise of Allah for the eternal bliss He has provided them. It is also recited as la tusma‘u (passive voice, "nothing will be heard").

{Fiha ‘aynun jariyah} (In it is a flowing spring): He means springs in great abundance, similar to the usage in "A soul will know" (At-Takwir: 14).

{Marfu‘ah} (Raised high): In terms of rank or height, so that the believer, by sitting upon them, may see all the kingdom and bliss his Lord has granted him. It is also said: "hidden" for them, derived from rafa‘a (to raise) in the sense of hiding something.

{Mawdu‘ah} (Placed): Whenever they desire them, they find them placed before them, prepared and present, without needing to call for them. Or, placed on the edges of the springs, prepared for drinking. It is also possible it means: placed at a moderate size, between small and large, as in His saying: "They determined them with precise determination" (Al-Insan: 16).

{Masfufah} (Aligned): Some next to others. Cushions and places to recline; wherever he wishes to sit on one cushion and lean against another.

{Wa zarabiyyu} (And carpets): Broad, luxurious rugs. It is said: they are the tanafis (fine carpets) that have a soft pile. It is the plural of zarbiyyah.

{Mabthuthah} (Spread out): Laid out or distributed throughout the seating areas.

{Do they not look at the camels, how they were created? And at the sky, how it was raised? And at the mountains, how they were erected? And at the earth, how it was spread out? So remind, for you are only a reminder. You are not a controller over them. Except for one who turns away and disbelieves. Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. Indeed, to Us is their return. Then indeed, upon Us is their account.}
