Tafsir
Verse range: 9:50
{If a good thing befalls you} in some of the military expeditions, such as victory or spoils, {it grieves them; but if a disaster befalls you}—a calamity or hardship in some of them, such as what occurred on the day of Uhud—{they rejoice} at their state of deviation from you.
{And they say, "We had already taken our precautions beforehand,"} meaning: we had taken our affairs—which we are characterized by, such as caution, vigilance, and acting with resolve—before what occurred.
{And they turn away} from the position of discussing this and gathering for it, returning to their families, {while they are rejoicing} and happy. It is also said: "they turn away" means they turn away from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
{Say, "Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our Protector." And upon Allah let the believers rely.}
