Primary text
The ruling regarding lost gold or silver is that the finder must identify its bindings ('wikaa'uha') and container (''ifaasuha') and then announce its finding publicly for one year. If the owner is not found after the year, the finder may use the property, keeping it as a trust ('wadi'ah') to be returned to the owner if they appear at any future time. This ruling is derived from the Hadith where the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani regarding lost gold and silver.
