What is the ruling on taking stray camels ('Dallaah')?

One is forbidden from taking stray camels. The instruction is to leave them alone, as they possess their own means of sustenance and locomotion ('with it is its footwear and its water-carrying capacity'), allowing them to return to water sources and feed on trees until their owner finds them. This is based on the Prophet's instruction when asked about stray camels.
