What is the legal (Shari'ah) definition of Salat?

In Islamic jurisprudence (Shari'ah), Salat is the established term referring to the known ritual actions. Therefore, when a command regarding Salat or a legal ruling contingent upon it is mentioned in the Sacred Law, it is understood to refer to the ritual prayer by its apparent meaning.
