Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 29:3

Abu Usama narrated to us, from Abdullah bin al-Walid al-Muzani, from Abu Bakr bin Amr bin Utbah, from Ibn Umar, who said: I came upon Abdullah bin Makhrama, who was fallen [wounded] on the day of al-Yamama, so I stood over him. He said, "O Abdullah bin Umar, has the fasting person broken his fast?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Then put some water for me in this shield of mine, so that I may perhaps break my fast with it." So I went to the basin, and it was filled with blood. I struck it with a vessel I had with me, then I scooped from it and brought it to him, but I found that he had already passed away.
