Hadith 5:2

Abu Usama narrated to us, from Shu'bah, who said: 'Awn ibn Abi Juhayfah narrated to me, saying: I heard al-Mundhir ibn Jarir, from his father, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) at the beginning of the day, when a people came to him, barefoot, wearing striped garments, with swords and turbans upon them. Most of them—nay, all of them—were from Mudar. He said: I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) change, a change [due to] what he saw of their poverty. He said: Then he stood up and entered, then he ordered Bilal, so he gave the adhan, then he performed the iqamah, then he prayed. Then he said: "O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul," then he recited until the end of the verse: "And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs." [Then he recited]: "Fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow." "Let a man give charity from his dinar, from his dirham, from his garment, from a sa' of wheat—meaning grain—from a sa' of dates," until he said: "Even if it be with half a date." He said: Then a man from the Ansar came with a pouch that his hand could almost not hold, nay, it had indeed failed [to hold it]. He said: Then the people followed one another until I saw two heaps of food and garments. He said: Then I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) beaming as if it were gilded. He said: "Whoever initiates a good or righteous practice in Islam, and it is followed after him, he shall have its reward and the reward of those who act upon it after him, without their rewards being diminished in the slightest. And whoever initiates an evil practice in Islam, and it is followed after him, he shall bear its burden and the burden of those who act upon it after him, without their burdens being diminished in the slightest."
