Hadith 112:1
Abu Ya'la Ahmad ibn Ali ibn al-Muthanna al-Mawsili informed us, Shayban ibn Farrukh narrated to us, Mubarak ibn Fudala narrated to us, al-Hasan narrated from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to deliver the sermon on Friday next to a wooden post, leaning his back against it. When the people became numerous, he said, "Build me a pulpit." So they built him a pulpit with two steps. When he stood on the pulpit to deliver the sermon, the wooden post yearned for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). Anas said: I was in the mosque and I heard the wooden post when it groaned with the groaning of a bereaved mother. It did not cease groaning until the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) descended to it and embraced it, whereupon it became silent. He said: When al-Hasan would narrate this hadith, he would weep and then say: "O servants of Allah, the wooden post yearns for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) out of longing for him due to his station with Allah, so you are more deserving to long for meeting him."
