Hadith 95:1

Ibrahim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Sami narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Abu Abd al-Salam, from Ayyub ibn Abd Allah ibn Mikraz, from Wabisah ibn Ma'bad al-Asadi, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and I intended not to leave anything regarding righteousness and sin without asking him about it. I came to him while he was among a group of people asking him for religious rulings, so I began stepping over them. They said, "Move away, O Wabisah, from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)." I said, "Let me draw near to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), for he is the most beloved of people to me to draw near to." He said, "Let Wabisah be. Draw near, O Wabisah. Ask your heart for a ruling, and ask your soul for a ruling. Ask your heart for a ruling, and ask your soul for a ruling. Righteousness is that which the soul is tranquil with and the heart is tranquil with, and sin is that which wavers in the soul and fluctuates in the chest, even if the people give you a ruling and give you a ruling," [repeating it] three times.
