Hadith 95:2
Ali ibn Hamzah al-Mu'awwali narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from al-Zubayr Abu 'Abd al-Salam, from Ayyub ibn 'Abd Allah, from Wabisa al-Asadi, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and I intended not to leave anything of righteousness (birr) and sin (ithm) without asking him about it. I came to him while a group of Muslims were around him asking him for religious verdicts, so I began stepping over them to get to him. They said, "Move back, O Wabisa!" I said to them, "Let me draw near to him, for he is the most beloved of people to me to draw near to." He said, "Let Wabisa be. Draw near, O Wabisa. Draw near, O Wabisa." So I drew near and sat before him. He said to me, "O Wabisa, shall you ask me, or shall I inform you?" I said, "Rather, inform me, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "You came to ask me about righteousness and sin." I said, "Yes." He gathered his fingertips and began to poke them into my chest, saying, "O Wabisa, consult your heart, and consult your soul. Consult your heart, and consult your soul. Righteousness is what the soul is at ease with, and sin is what wavers in the chests, even if the people give you a verdict and give you a verdict," [repeating it] three times.
