Narrated by Abd al-Rahman ibn Qatadah al-Sulami: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "Allah created His creation, then when He finished the creation, the ties of kinship stood up and said: 'This is the station of the one who seeks refuge in You from being severed.' He said: 'Yes, are you not pleased that I should join whoever joins you and sever whoever severs you?' It said: 'Yes, O Lord.' He said: 'Then that is for you.'" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Recite if you wish: 'Would you then, if you were given authority, do mischief in the land and sever your ties of kinship?'"
