Hadith of Abdur-Rahman ibn Khunbush (RA)

Hadith 80:2

'Affan narrated to us, Ja'far ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Abu al-Tayyah narrated to us, he said: A man asked 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Khunbush: How did the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) act when the devils plotted against him? He said: The devils came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) from the valleys and descended upon him from the mountains. Among them was a devil who had a torch of fire, wanting to burn the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) with it. He said: He became terrified—Ja'far said: I think he said: He began to retreat. He said: Then Gabriel came and said: "O Muhammad, say." He said: "What should I say?" He said: "Say: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah, which neither the righteous nor the wicked can surpass, from the evil of what He created, fashioned, and brought into being; and from the evil of what descends from the heaven and the evil of what ascends into it; and from the evil of what He fashioned in the earth and the evil of what emerges from it; and from the evil of the trials of the night and the day; and from the evil of every visitor, except a visitor who comes with good, O Most Merciful." Then the fire of the devils was extinguished, and Allah (the Almighty and Majestic) defeated them.
