Hadith of Abu ‘Amir al-Ash‘ari (RA)
Hadith 460:2
Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, he said: I heard Abdullah ibn Maladh narrating from Numayr ibn Aws, from Malik ibn Masruh, from Amir ibn Abi Amir al-Ash'ari, from his father, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said: "Excellent are the tribes of Al-Azd and the Ash'ariyyun; they do not flee in battle, and they do not steal from the spoils of war. They are of me, and I am of them." Amir said: I narrated this to Mu'awiyah, and he said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did not say it like that, but rather he said: 'They are of me and unto me.'" He [Amir] said: "It is not like that that my father narrated to me from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, but rather he said: 'They are of me, and I am of them.'" He [Mu'awiyah] said: "Then you are more knowledgeable of your father's hadith." Abdullah said: "This is among the finest of hadith; none narrated it except Jarir."
