Hadith of Abu ‘Aqrab (RA)

حديث أبي عقرب

Hadith 856:0

Narrated to us by Yahya ibn Sa’id, from Shu’bah, who said: Narrated to us Qatadah, from Abu al-Maliḥ, from Abu ‘Aqrab, that he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and pledged allegiance to him upon Islam. He said: "I pledged allegiance to him that I would worship Allah and not associate anything with Him, and that I would perform the five prayers, and pay the zakat, and fast the month of Ramadan, and perform the Hajj to the House, and that I would not flee from the battlefield." He said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, as for these, I am able to do them all except for the Hajj, for I am a man who is a rider, and I fear that I will not be able to perform it.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Do not flee from the battlefield, and do not associate anything with Allah. If you do that, then you have no Hajj and no zakat. Do you want to enter Paradise?' I said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Then be kind to your mother.'"
