حديث أبي جبيرة بن الضحاك

Hadith 635:1

Isma'il narrated to us, Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated to us, from al-Sha'bi, who said: Abu Jubayrah ibn al-Dahhak narrated to me, saying: Regarding us, in the Banu Salamah, was revealed: "And do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames" [Al-Hujurat: 11]. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived in Medina, and there was not a man among us who did not have two or three names. So when he would call one of them by one of those names, they would say: "O Messenger of Allah, he gets angry at this." He said: So it was revealed: "And do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames."

حدثنا إسماعيل، حدثنا داود بن أبي هند، عن الشعبي، قال: حدثني أبو جبيرة بن الضحاك قال: فينا نزلت في بني سلمة {ولا تنابزوا بالألقاب} [الحجرات: 11] قال: قدم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم المدينة، وليس منا رجل إلا وله اسمان أو ثلاثة، فكان إذا دعا أحدا منهم باسم من تلك الأسماء، قالوا: يا رسول الله إنه يغضب من هذا: قال: فنزلت: {ولا تنابزوا بالألقاب}
