Musnad Ahmad 168:1

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from Ibn 'Umar, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying: "Kill snakes, and kill the one with two stripes (dhu al-tufyatayn) and the short-tailed one (al-abtar), for they cause the pregnancy to miscarry and blind the sight." Ibn 'Umar said: Abu Lubabah, or Zayd ibn al-Khattab, saw me while I was chasing a snake to kill it, so he forbade me. I said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, has commanded their killing." He said: "He has forbidden after that the killing of those that are in the houses." Al-Zuhri said: They are the dwellers (al-'awamir).
