Musnad Ahmad 168:2

Yazid narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, from Nafi’, from Ibn Umar, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saying upon the pulpit: "Kill the snake, and kill the one with two white stripes (dhu al-tufyatayn), and the short-tailed one (al-abtar), for they both snatch away the sight and cause the miscarriage of the fetus." He said: So I would not see a snake except that I killed it, until Abu Lubabah ibn al-Mundhir said to me: "Will you not open a small door between me and you?" I said: "Yes." He said: So I stood up, and he, and we opened it. A snake emerged, so I rushed toward it to kill it. He said to me: "Wait." I said: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has commanded the killing of them." He said: "He has indeed forbidden the killing of those that dwell in houses."
