Musnad Ahmad 457:2

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Abu Malik narrated to us, from Rib'i ibn Hirash, from Hudhayfah: "A man was brought to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, and He said: 'What did you do in the world?' The man said to Him: 'I did not do a weight of an atom of good that I could hope for through it.' He said it to Him three times. And he said in the third: 'O my Lord, You had given me an abundance of wealth in the world, and I used to trade with people. It was my nature to overlook [the faults of others], and I used to make things easy for the wealthy, and grant respite to the insolvent.' So the Almighty and Majestic said: 'We are more entitled to that than you. Overlook [the faults of] My servant.' So He forgave him." Abu Mas'ud said: "This is how I heard it from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." "And another man commanded his family, when he died, to burn him, then grind him, then scatter him on a day of a violent wind. They did that to him. Then he was gathered to his Lord, the Almighty and Majestic. He said to him: 'What compelled you to do this?' He said: 'O Lord, there was no servant more disobedient to You than me, so I hoped that I might be saved.' Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, said: 'Overlook [the faults of] My servant.' So He forgave him." Abu Mas'ud said: "This is how I heard it from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him."
