Hadith of Al-Harith ibn 'Amr (RA)

حديث الحارث بن عمرو

Hadith 247:0

Narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja’far, narrated to us by Shu’bah, from ‘Amr ibn Murrah, who said: I heard Murrah al-Hamadani narrating from al-Harith ibn ‘Amr, from the Prophet (ﷺ), that he sent Mu’adh to Yemen. He said: "How will you judge when a matter is presented to you?" He said: "I will judge by the Book of Allah." He said: "If you do not find it in the Book of Allah?" He said: "Then by the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah." He said: "If you do not find it in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah?" He said: "I will exert my own opinion (ijtihad), and I will not fall short." He said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) struck his chest and said: 'Praise be to Allah who has granted success to the messenger of the Messenger of Allah in that which pleases the Messenger of Allah.'"
