Hadith of al-Nuwas bin Sam'an al-Kilabi al-Ansari (RA)
حديث النواس بن سمعان الكلابي الأنصاري
Hadith 528:0
It was narrated from An-Nawwas bin Sam'an Al-Kilabi Al-Ansari that he said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mentioned the Dajjal one morning. He spoke of him as being insignificant and spoke of him as being significant, until we thought he was in the cluster of date palms. When we went to him in the evening, he understood that from us, and he said: "What is the matter with you?" We said: "O Messenger of Allah, you mentioned the Dajjal this morning, and you spoke of him as being insignificant and spoke of him as being significant, until we thought he was in the cluster of date palms." He said: "Other than the Dajjal, I fear for you more. If he emerges while I am among you, I will be his opponent on your behalf. And if he emerges while I am not among you, then every person is his own protector, and Allah is the Successor to every Muslim over my family. He is a young man with curly hair, his eye is floating (protruding). I liken him to 'Abd Al-'Uzza bin Qatan. Whoever among you lives to see him, let him recite the opening verses of Surat Al-Kahf over him. He will emerge on a path between Syria and Iraq, and he will cause corruption to the right and to the left. O servants of Allah, remain steadfast." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, how long will he stay on the earth?" He said: "Forty days; one day like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of his days will be like your days." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, that day which is like a year, will the prayer of one day be sufficient for us in it?" He said: "No, estimate the time for it." We said: "How fast will he move on the earth?" He said: "Like a rain cloud driven by the wind. He will come to a people and call them, and they will believe in him and respond to him. He will command the sky, and it will rain, and he will command the earth, and it will produce vegetation. Their livestock will return to them in the evening with their humps higher, their udders fuller, and their flanks more stretched than they have ever been. Then he will come to a people and call them, and they will reject him. He will leave them, and they will suffer from drought, and they will possess nothing of their wealth. He will pass by the ruins and say to them: 'Bring forth your treasures,' and their treasures will follow him like the drones of bees. Then he will call a man, a youth in the prime of his life, and strike him with a sword, cutting him into two pieces, casting them the distance of an archer's shot. Then he will call him, and he will come with his face shining, laughing." While he is in that state, Allah will send the Messiah, son of Maryam. He will descend at the white minaret in the east of Damascus, wearing two garments lightly dyed with saffron, placing his hands on the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, it drips, and when he raises it, beads like pearls fall from it. Every disbeliever who smells the scent of his breath will die, and his breath will reach as far as his sight. He will seek him out until he catches him at the gate of Ludd, and he will kill him. Then a people whom Allah has protected will come to 'Isa, son of Maryam, and he will wipe their faces and tell them of their ranks in Paradise. While he is in that state, Allah will reveal to 'Isa: "I have brought forth some of My servants whom no one has the power to fight, so take My servants to the mountain." Then Allah will send Gog and Magog, and they will swarm down from every slope. The first of them will pass by Lake Tiberias and drink what is in it, and the last of them will pass by it and say: "There used to be water here once." The Prophet of Allah, 'Isa, and his companions will be besieged until the head of an ox will be more precious to one of them than a hundred dinars is to one of you today. Then the Prophet of Allah, 'Isa, and his companions will supplicate to Allah, and Allah will send a worm (naghf) in their necks, and they will die all at once like the death of a single soul. Then the Prophet of Allah, 'Isa, and his companions will descend to the earth, and they will not find a single span of space on the earth that is not filled with their stench, rot, and blood. The Prophet of Allah, 'Isa, and his companions will supplicate to Allah, and Allah will send birds like the necks of Bactrian camels, which will carry them and throw them where Allah wills. Then Allah will send rain that no house of clay or tent can withstand, and it will wash the earth until it leaves it like a mirror. Then it will be said to the earth: "Bring forth your fruit and restore your blessing." On that day, a group of people will eat from a single pomegranate and seek shade under its peel. Milk will be blessed until a milking camel will suffice a large group of people, and a milking cow will suffice a tribe, and a milking sheep will suffice a clan. While they are in that state, Allah will send a pleasant wind that will take them under their armpits and take the soul of every believer and every Muslim. Only the worst of people will remain, who will commit adultery openly like donkeys, and upon them the Hour will come.
