Hadith of Al-Walid ibn Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt (RA)

حديث الوليد بن عقبة بن أبي معيط

Hadith 309:0

Narrated to us by Hisham ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Abu Salih, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent Al-Walid ibn Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt to the Banu al-Mustaliq to collect their Zakat. When the people heard of his arrival, they went out to meet him in honor of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). Al-Walid feared them, so he returned to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the Banu al-Mustaliq have withheld their Zakat and intended to kill me." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) became angry, and he was preparing to send an army to them. In the meantime, the delegation of the Banu al-Mustaliq arrived and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we heard of your messenger's arrival, so we went out to meet him to honor him and fulfill our duty to you. But he turned back, and we feared that he had returned because of some anger from you or a command from you." Then Allah, the Exalted, revealed: "O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful."
