Hadith 272:1
Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us—Abdullah said: My father narrated it to us from him while he was alive—he said: Hujr ibn al-Harith al-Ghassani, from the people of Ramla, narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Awf al-Kinani, who was a governor for Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz over Ramla, that he witnessed Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan say to Bashir ibn Aqrabah al-Juhani on the day Amr ibn Sa'id ibn al-As was killed: "O Abu al-Yaman, I have needed your speech today, so stand and speak." He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'Whoever stands to deliver a sermon, seeking thereby nothing but showing off and reputation, Allah the Almighty will station him on the Day of Resurrection in a station of showing off and reputation.'"
حدثنا سعيد بن منصور - قال عبد الله: حدثناه أبي عنه وهو حي - قال: حدثنا حجر بن الحارث الغساني، من أهل الرملة، عن عبد الله بن عوف الكناني، وكان عاملا لعمر بن عبد العزيز على الرملة، أنه شهد عبد الملك بن مروان قال لبشير بن عقربة الجهني يوم قتل عمرو بن سعيد بن العاص: يا أبا اليمان، إني قد احتجت اليوم إلى كلامك، فقم فتكلم، قال: إني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " من قام بخطبة لا يلتمس بها إلا رياء وسمعة، أوقفه الله عز وجل يوم القيامة، موقف رياء وسمعة "
