Musnad Ahmad 552:2

Ismail ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Awf narrated to us, Abu al-Qamus Zayd ibn Ali narrated to me, he said: One of the delegation who came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, from Abd al-Qays narrated to me, he said: We gifted him, among what we gifted him, a container or a waterskin of *Ta'dud* or *Barniy* (types of dates). He said: "What is this?" We said: This is a gift. He said—and I think he looked at a date from it, then returned it to its place—and said: "Deliver it to the family of Muhammad." He said: The people asked him about things, until they asked him about drinks. He said: "Do not drink from a *duba'* (gourd), nor a *hantam* (green glazed jar), nor a *naqir* (hollowed-out log), nor a *muzaffat* (pitch-coated vessel). Drink from that which is lawful and tied." One of us said to him: O Messenger of Allah, what makes you know what the *duba'*, the *hantam*, the *naqir*, and the *muzaffat* are? He said: "I do not know what they are. Which of Hajar is the most honorable?" We said: Al-Mushaqqar. He said: "By Allah, I have entered it and taken its key." He said: I had forgotten something of his speech, and Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Jarwah reminded me of it. He said: "I stood at the spring of al-Zarah." Then he said: "O Allah, forgive Abd al-Qays, for they embraced Islam willingly, not reluctantly, and were neither disgraced nor deprived, whereas some of our people do not embrace Islam until they are disgraced and deprived." He said: His face turned here from the Qibla until he faced the Qibla, and he said: "Indeed, the best of the people of the East are Abd al-Qays."
