Hadith of Dhu al-Yadayn (RA)

Hadith 413:2

Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: Nasr ibn Ali narrated to me, saying: Ma’di ibn Sulayman informed me, saying: I came to Mutayr to ask him about the hadith of Dhu al-Yadayn. I came to him and asked him, and he was an old man whose hadith did not flow well due to old age. His son, Shu’ayth, said: "Yes, father, you narrated to me that Dhu al-Yadayn met you at Dhu Khashab, and he narrated to you that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed one of the two evening prayers with them—which is the Asr—for two rak'ahs, then he said the taslim. The hasty people left, and he said: "Has the prayer been shortened?" Among the people were Abu Bakr and Umar. Dhu al-Yadayn said: "Has the prayer been shortened, or have you forgotten?" He said: "The prayer has not been shortened, nor have I forgotten." Then he turned to Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: "What is Dhu al-Yadayn saying?" They both said: "He has spoken the truth, O Messenger of Allah." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned, the people gathered, and he prayed two rak'ahs with them, then he said the taslim, then he performed the two prostrations of forgetfulness.
