Musnad Ahmad 1278:2

Ahmad ibn Abd al-Malik narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from Simak, from Abdullah ibn Umayrah, from the husband of Durrah bint Abi Lahab, from Durrah bint Abi Lahab, who said: A man stood up to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, while he was on the pulpit and said: "O Messenger of Allah, which of the people is the best?" He, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The best of the people is the most proficient of them in recitation, the most God-fearing of them, the one who most enjoins the good, the one who most forbids the evil, and the one who most maintains ties of kinship."
