Hadith of Fura'a bint Malik (RA)
حديث فريعة بنت مالك
Hadith 1195:0
Narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja’far, who said: Narrated to us by Shu’bah, from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, who said: I heard Fari’ah bint Malik ibn Sinan—and she was the sister of Abu Sa’id al-Khudri—saying: I came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to ask him about returning to my family among the Banu Khudrah. My husband had gone out in pursuit of some servants of his who had fled, and when they reached al-Qadum, they caught up with him and killed him. I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) if I could return to my family, for my husband had not left me a house of his own, nor had he left me any provision. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Yes." So I turned to leave, and when I was in the chamber or the mosque, he called me—or had me called—and said: "What did you say?" I repeated the story to him regarding my husband. He said: "Stay in your house until the prescribed period (iddah) reaches its term." So I observed the waiting period in it for four months and ten days. She said: Uthman ibn Affan sent for me regarding this, and I informed him of it, and he accepted it and acted upon it.
