Hadith of Hazzal (RA)

Hadith 946:2

'Affan narrated to us, Aban—meaning Ibn Yazid al-'Attar—narrated to us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to me, from Abu Salamah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from Nu'aym ibn Hazzal: That Hazzal had hired Ma'iz ibn Malik, and he had a slave girl called Fatimah who had been betrothed, and she used to graze sheep for them. Ma'iz had intercourse with her. He informed Hazzal, and he deceived him, saying: "Go to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and inform him; perhaps a Quran will be revealed concerning you." The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ordered him, and he was stoned. When the pain of the stones bit him, he began to run. A man met him with the jawbone of a camel or the leg of a camel, and he struck him with it and brought him down. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Woe to you, O Hazzal! If you had covered him with your garment, it would have been better for you."
