Hadith of Ibn Abi Khuzamah (RA)

حديث ابن أبي خزامة

Hadith 86:0

It was narrated to us by Yahya ibn Sa’id, from Hisham, who said: My father narrated to me, from Ibn Abi Khuzama, from his father, that he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is it that is not permissible to withhold?" He replied: "Water, salt, and fire." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I know about water, but what is the matter with salt and fire?" He replied: "O Ibn Abi Khuzama, whoever gives salt, it is as if he has given charity of all things, and whoever gives fire, it is as if he has given charity of all things, and whoever gives water where there is water, it is as if he has revived a soul, and whoever gives water where there is no water, it is as if he has brought a soul to life."
