Hadith 734:0
Ma’iz ibn Malik came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned away from him. He returned to him from the other side and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." He turned away from him again. He returned to him a third time and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed adultery." He turned away from him a fourth time. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent for his people and asked, "Do you know of any mental deficiency in him? Do you find anything strange about his intellect?" They said, "We do not know him to be anything but sound in intellect and righteous among us, as far as we know." He came to him a fifth time, and he ordered that he be stoned. So he was taken to the stony ground (al-Harrah). When the stones struck him, he fled. He passed by a man holding the jawbone of a camel, who struck him with it, and others struck him until he died. Then the news reached the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) that he had fled. He said, "Why did you not leave him? Perhaps he would have repented, and Allah would have accepted his repentance."
