Musnad Ahmad 1094:3

Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri, Abu Salamah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman informed me, that Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami—and he was a Companion—said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think about matters we used to do during the Pre-Islamic Period (Jahiliyyah)? We used to seek omens (tatayyur)." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "That is something one of you finds within himself, so let it not turn you away." I said: "And we used to go to the soothsayers (kuhhan)." He said: "Do not go to the soothsayers."
