Musnad Ahmad 143:1

Hajjaj narrated to us, Laith narrated to us, from Uqayl, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, from Mu’awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami, that he said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "What do you think about things we used to do in the Jahiliyyah? We used to practice *tatayyur* (taking omens/augury)?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "That is something you find within yourself, so let it not turn you away." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, we used to go to the soothsayers." He said: "Do not go to the soothsayers."
