Musnad Ahmad 293:1

Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: Hisham al-Dastawa'i narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Hilal ibn Abi Maymunah, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, from Rifa'ah al-Juhani, who said: We came with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, until when we were at al-Kadid—or he said: at Qudayd—men among us began to ask him for permission to go to their families, and he would grant them permission. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, stood up, praised Allah, and extolled Him. Then he said: "What is the matter with men for whom the side of the tree that is next to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is more hateful to them than the other side?" We saw no one among the people at that time but that he was weeping. A man said: "Indeed, whoever asks your permission after this is a fool." He then praised Allah and said: "I bear witness before Allah that no servant dies bearing witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, sincerely from his heart, and then acts uprightly, except that he will be led into Paradise." He said: "My Lord, Mighty and Majestic is He, has promised me that He will cause seventy thousand of my nation to enter without reckoning or punishment. And I hope that they will not enter it until you and those who are righteous among your fathers, your spouses, and your descendants have settled in dwellings in Paradise." He said: "When half of the night—or he said: two-thirds of the night—has passed, Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, descends to the lowest heaven and says: 'I do not ask anyone about My servants other than Myself. Who is it that seeks My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him? Who is it that calls upon Me, so that I may answer him? Who is it that asks of Me, so that I may give to him?' until the dawn breaks."
