Hadith of Sulayman ibn Amr ibn al-Ahwas, from his father (RA)

حديث سليمان بن عمرو بن الأحوص، عن أبيه

Hadith 267:0

The hadith of Sulayman ibn Amr ibn al-Ahwas, from his father: He said: I witnessed the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He praised Allah and extolled Him, and he reminded and admonished. Then he said: "Do you know what day this is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "This is the day of the greatest pilgrimage." Then he said: "Do you know what month this is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "This is the sacred month." Then he said: "Do you know what land this is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "This is the sacred land." Then he said: "Verily, your blood, your wealth, and your honor are sacred to you, like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. Have I conveyed?" They said: "Yes." He said: "O Allah, bear witness." Then he said: "Beware of injustice. Beware of injustice. Beware of injustice. For indeed, the blood of the Age of Ignorance is abolished, and the first blood of ours that I abolish is the blood of al-Harith ibn Abd al-Muttalib, who was nursed among the Banu Layth and killed by the Hudhayl. And the usury of the Age of Ignorance is abolished, and the first usury of ours that I abolish is the usury of al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib; it is all abolished. So fear Allah regarding women, for you have taken them by the trust of Allah, and made their private parts lawful to you by the word of Allah. You have rights over them, and they have rights over you: that they should not bring into your beds anyone whom you dislike. If they do that, strike them, but not severely. And their provision and clothing are upon you in kindness. I have left among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah. And you will be asked about me, so what will you say?" They said: "We bear witness that you have conveyed, fulfilled, and advised." He said with his forefinger pointing to the sky and gesturing toward the people: "O Allah, bear witness. O Allah, bear witness. O Allah, bear witness."
