Hadith of Tufayl ibn Sakhbarah (RA)
حديث طفيل بن سخبرة
Hadith 876:0
Narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja’far, who said: Narrated to us Shu’bah, from Qatadah, who said: I heard Abu al-Maliḥ narrating from Tufayl ibn Sakhbarah—the brother of ‘Aishah, the Mother of the Believers, through her mother—that he saw in a dream that he passed by a group of Jews or Christians. He said: I said to them, "Who are you?" They said, "We are the Jews." I said, "You would be the best people if you did not claim that Uzayr is the son of Allah." They said, "You would be the best people if you did not say, 'Whatever Allah wills and whatever you will.'" He said: Then I passed by a group of Christians. I said, "Who are you?" They said, "We are the Christians." I said, "You would be the best people if you did not claim that the Messiah is the son of Allah." They said, "You would be the best people if you did not say, 'Whatever Allah wills and whatever Muhammad wills.'" He said: When he woke up, he mentioned it to someone, then he went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and mentioned it to him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Did you tell anyone about this?" He said, "Yes." So the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood up, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "Tufayl saw a dream, and some of you have mentioned it. You used to say something that I was prevented from forbidding you from until now. So do not say, 'Whatever Allah wills and whatever Muhammad wills,' but say, 'Whatever Allah wills alone.'"
