Hadith 906:1
Isma'il narrated to us, Ayyub narrated to us, from Hafsa bint Sirin, who said: We used to prevent our young women from going out. Then a woman arrived and stayed at the palace of Banu Khalaf. She narrated that her sister was married to a man who was among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he had participated in twelve expeditions with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). She said: My sister said, "I participated in six expeditions with him. We used to treat the wounded and care for the sick." My sister asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and said: "Is there any sin upon one of us who does not have a jilbab if she does not go out?" He said: "Let her companion clothe her with her jilbab, and let her witness the good and the supplication of the believers." She said: When Umm 'Atiyyah arrived, I asked her, or we asked her: "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) say such and such?" She said—and she would not mention the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) without saying "bi-bi" (a term of endearment/reverence)—she said: "Yes, bi-bi, he said: 'Let the young women who are kept in seclusion—or she said: the young women and those kept in seclusion—and the menstruating women go out, so that they may witness the good and the supplication of the believers, but let the menstruating women keep away from the prayer area.'" I said to Umm 'Atiyyah: "Even the menstruating woman?" She said: "Does she not witness 'Arafah, and witness such and such, and witness such and such?"
حدثنا إسماعيل، حدثنا أيوب، عن حفصة بنت سيرين، قالت: كنا نمنع عواتقنا أن يخرجن، فقدمت امرأة، فنزلت قصر بني خلف، فحدثت أن أختها كانت تحت رجل من أصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قد غزا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ثنتي عشرة غزوة، قالت: أختي غزوت معه ست غزوات، قالت: كنا نداوي الكلمى، ونقوم على المرضى، فسألت أختي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقالت: هل على إحدانا بأس لمن لم يكن لها جلباب أن لا تخرج؟ فقال: " لتلبسها صاحبتها من جلبابها، ولتشهد الخير ودعوة المؤمنين "، قالت: فلما قدمت أم عطية فسألتها، أو سألناها، هل سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: كذا وكذا؟، قالت: وكانت لا تذكر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إلا قالت: بيبا، فقالت: نعم، بيبا، قال: " لتخرج العواتق ذوات الخدور، أو قالت: العواتق وذوات الخدور، والحيض فيشهدن الخير، ودعوة المؤمنين، ويعتزلن الحيض المصلى "، فقلت لأم عطية: الحائض؟ ، فقالت: " أو ليس يشهدن عرفة وتشهد كذا، وتشهد كذا؟ "
