Hadith of Umm Ruman, mother of Aisha (RA), the Mother of the Believers

حديث أم رومان أم عائشة أم المؤمنين

Hadith 1189:0

Narrated by Umm Ruman, the mother of Aisha, the Mother of the Believers: She said: While I was with Aisha, and we were in our house, suddenly a man called out from the courtyard: "O Umm Ruman!" I went out to him, and when I was between the door and the man, I stumbled and fell. I heard him say, "May Allah forgive you." I said to him, "And may Allah forgive you. Who are you?" He said, "I am Abu Bakr." He said, "What is this I see? You are striking her?" I said, "Do you not see how she is provoking me?" He began to rebuke her and took hold of her, while I was shielding her from him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out, and when Abu Bakr saw him, he retreated. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered, and Aisha was crying. He said to her, "Did I not forbid you from this?" Then he began to wipe her tears and comfort her. Abu Bakr and I felt ashamed before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) because of what we had done to her. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "O Abu Bakr, did you see how I saved her from you?" He repeated this twice or three times. Then he said, "O Abu Bakr, if you wish, come back another day." Abu Bakr came back, and he found the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and Aisha laughing. He said to them, "Include me in your peace, just as you included me in your war." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "We have done so, we have done so."
