Hadith 766:2
Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Yahya ibn Ayyub informed us, from Umarah ibn Ghaziyyah, from Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Amr, from his mother Fatimah bint Husayn, from Aisha, that she used to say: Usayd ibn Hudayr was among the most virtuous of people, and he used to say: "If I were to be as I am in three of my states, I would be [perfect]: when I recite the Quran, when I hear it being recited, when I hear the sermon of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and when I attend a funeral. And I have never attended a funeral without speaking to my soul about what is being done to it and what it is heading toward."
حدثنا علي بن إسحاق، حدثنا عبد الله بن المبارك، أخبرنا يحيى بن أيوب، عن عمارة بن غزية، عن محمد بن عبد الله بن عمرو، عن أمه فاطمة ابنة حسين، عن عائشة، أنها كانت تقول: كان أسيد بن حضير من أفاضل الناس، وكان يقول: " لو أني أكون كما أكون على أحوال ثلاث من أحوالي لكنت: حين أقرأ القرآن وحين أسمعه يقرأ، وإذا سمعت خطبة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وإذا شهدت جنازة، وما شهدت جنازة قط فحدثت نفسي بسوى ما هو مفعول بها، وما هي صائرة إليه "
