Hadith 433:1
'Attab narrated to us, 'Abdullah—meaning Ibn al-Mubarak—narrated to us, Yunus narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf al-Ansari informed me, that Ibn 'Abbas informed him, that Khalid ibn al-Walid—who is called the Sword of Allah—informed him, that he entered with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) upon Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)—and she was his maternal aunt and the maternal aunt of Ibn 'Abbas. He found with her a roasted lizard (*dhab*) which her sister, Hafidah bint al-Harith, had brought from Najd. She presented the lizard to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). It was rare that he would extend his hand to food until he was told about it and it was named for him. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) reached his hand toward the lizard. A woman from the women present said: "Inform the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) of what you have presented to him." They said: "It is a lizard, O Messenger of Allah." So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) lifted his hand from the lizard. Khalid ibn al-Walid said: "Is the lizard forbidden, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "No, but it was not in the land of my people, so I find that I dislike it." Khalid said: "So I pulled it toward me and ate it, while the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was looking at me, and he did not forbid me."
حدثنا عتاب، حدثنا عبد الله يعني ابن المبارك، حدثنا يونس، عن الزهري، أخبرني أبو أمامة بن سهل بن حنيف الأنصاري، أن ابن عباس، أخبره، أن خالد بن الوليد - الذي يقال له: سيف الله -، أخبره، أنه دخل مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم على ميمونة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم - وهي خالته وخالة ابن عباس -، فوجد عندها ضبا محنوذا قدمت به أختها حفيدة بنت الحارث من نجد، فقدمت الضب لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وكان قلما يقدم يده لطعام حتى يحدث به، ويسمى له، فأهوى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يده إلى الضب، فقالت امرأة من النسوة الحضور: أخبرن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ما قدمتن إليه، قلن: هو الضب يا رسول الله. فرفع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يده عن الضب. فقال خالد بن الوليد: أحرام الضب يا رسول الله؟ قال: " لا، ولكن لم يكن بأرض قومي، فأجدني أعافه ". قال خالد: فاجتررته، فأكلته ورسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ينظر إلي، فلم ينهاني
