Musnad Ahmad 855:2

Bahz narrated to us, Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Humayd—meaning Ibn Hilal—narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn al-Samit, who said: Ziyad wanted to appoint Imran ibn Husayn over Khurasan, but he refused him. His companions said to him: "Have you abandoned Khurasan, that you would not be over it?" He said: "By Allah, it does not please me that I should pray in its heat while you pray in its cold. I fear that when I am at the throats of the enemy, a letter will come to me from Ziyad; if I proceed, I will perish, and if I return, my neck will be struck." He said: So he wanted al-Hakam ibn Amr al-Ghifari for it. He said: So he submitted to his command. He said: Imran said: "Will no one call al-Hakam for me?" He said: The messenger went. He said: So al-Hakam came to him. He said: He entered upon him. He said: Imran said to al-Hakam: "Did you hear the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: 'There is no obedience to anyone in disobedience to Allah'?" He said: "Yes." Imran said: "Praise be to Allah," or "Allah is the Greatest."
